Rundlet-May House

Elizabeth Jane Rundlet

This oil on canvas portrait of Elizabeth Jane Rundlet Homer, daughter of James and Jane Rundlet, was painted in London. She was their tenth child. In 1838, she married Peter Thatcher Homer, a member of the Boston dry goods firm Benjamin Adams & Co. She died tragically in childbirth in Manchester, England, a year later. Though the artist of her portrait is unknown, the canvas is stamped with the name Robert Davy (1771-1843), who was an artist supplier in England, primarily of panels and millboards, but had also listed been listed in local census records as a gilder, carver, and picture restorer.
