Rundlet-May House

Side Chairs

According to James Rundlet’s personal accounting ledger he purchased a set of six side chairs and two armchairs from renowned local furniture-maker Langley Boardman on September 13, 1802 for $68.  The intricate carving of the five tapered bannisters of the back of the chair appears to be copied from the design in George Hepplewhite’s The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer’s Guideone of the popular guides for tastemakers of the time.
